Wash, Rinse and Repeat…

Hello!
Today I want to introduce you to the best friend of our laundry soap. It won’t take long, just a quick meet and greet - I have a mountain of laundry waiting for me…

Vinegar. Plain ole white vinegar. The ultimate multi-tasker. Why white vinegar? You see, regular fabric softener - in addition to having most of the same toxic attributes as regular detergent - it has a bonus negative (in my humble opinion) feature. The bonus feature is that it in effect coats each strand of thread with a thin plastic-y coating that smooths, keeps free of static, keeps that signature scent and leaves you with “softened” laundry. Plus, any time I’ve ever used softener, it kind of makes every area it’s stored “gooey” to boot.
So, once we made the conscious jump to clean for our laundry soap - it seemed we were just going to go without any softener. Which, a lot of times (like right now, actually) we do! And our clothes are just as soft and fresh smelling. Since our laundry soap isn’t coating our clothes in anything yucky, they don’t feel stiff or rough when they come out of the dryer. Sometimes though, we have extra stinky clothes from farm projects, or towels that dried a wet and muddy dog, and we want an extra boost to remove the stink - enter vinegar! Fun fact, acetic acid (aka white vinegar) eliminates stink at the source - odor causing microbes - so it’s cleaner and not stinky instead of just a perfumed cover up! Sometimes, we have whites that we want to be a little brighter, or we want to combat our hard water making our whites dull - enter vinegar! See, I told you I was introducing you to a multi-tasker.
We use up to half a cup of plain ole white vinegar in our rinse cycle of our laundry loads. It works it’s freshening, brightening, softening magic and rinses out any vinegar smell leaving behind purely clean laundry - none of the bad stuff!

Next time we meet up - I’ll share my secret to detoxing your laundry as you break up with conventional detergent and softener. If you’ve already bought yourself some Stone Mountain Suds, and you want the secret sooner - send me an email, I’ll gladly share!

Now, the mountains are calling… if you know what I mean!

Until next time,

Kate
